SIEC 75 YEAR ANNIVERSARY....The Cooperative Purpose
Imagine if you will, what it must have been like after dark in the farms and small towns of southern Illinois 75 years ago...before there was power...before there was electricity. But that was all about to change, and change it did, when farmers and rural families banded together to shine a light on the need to turn the on the lights in rural America. WATCH VIDEO HERE. Generator Safety
During long-term power outages, many rely on portable generators for emergency power. The growing popularity of portable electric generators has resulted in millions being placed in homes and small businesses across the nation. But, it's estimated only a small percentage is hooked up correctly. Safe Electricity and SIEC urge members to understand the proper safety steps that must be taken.

What to do in case of a power outage:Click here for how to Report an Outage, but before calling the Cooperative: * Check all breakers and fuses. If you feel the problem is not on your side of the meter: * Call the Cooperative at 618.827.3555 or 800.762.1400.  Please do not report power outages or emergencies through email. They must be reported by telephone at 1-800-762-1400. Restoring Power:ÂYour Co-op has a list of priorities that we use to determine the best way to restore power after an outage. If it's a localized interruption, like a downed line or pole, the priority is easy: send out a crew and fix it. But if we get widespread damage from a storm or other cause, we have to take it step by step. For example, if we restore the lines going to your home before we repair substations and main lines, you still won't have power, and we'll have to come back to test the lines before actually hooking you up. By restoring power from the distribution points down, we can actually restore your power faster.
